Tuition For All

STOP PRESS NEW STUDENTS!

I OFFER THE FREE USE OF A STUDENT SAX FOR INTRODUCTORY LESSONS.

One to one saxophone tuition is available in my purpose built ground floor air-conditioned studio in Rishworth.

I am currently teaching over 40 students of all levels and abilities. I positively welcome absolute beginners and pupils of all ages from around 11 years old. I encourage older learners too as it’s never too late to start a new hobby such as playing the sax! Don't worry if you can't read music as I teach this in conjunction with playing.

Many younger students and more mature learners benefit by working through the Trinity and ABRSM grade exam syllabuses. I worked as a representative for Trinity for eight years (2007-2015) and I have a particular insight into the requiremnets of grade examinations.

Others prefer to learn just for fun with absolutely no pressure! My objective however is that everyone reaches their own potential and gets the most from their lessons.

I also have a huge library of backing tracks and playalongs which are used to enhance my students' playing experience. I use "Transcribe" software to enable music to be slowed down to assist students and even to change key for my tenor sax pupils! http://www.seventhstring.com/

Sax tuition includes for example:

  • Producing a good tone...making sure you sound good!
  • Learning to and  improving reading music.
  • Improving your technique...feeling comfortable on your instrument.
  • Musical development... building up your own repertoire of tunes!
  • Grades for those who wish to take them...Trinity or ABRSM, jazz, or classical , from grade 1 to 8.
  • Playing along to studio backing tracks.
  • Music theory & improvisation as requested.
  • Having fun!!

What if I don’t have a sax? …don’t worry!!

First of all I offer the loan of a sax for the first few lessons (in studio). I can also advise on either the hire of an instrument or the purchase of a new or quality used saxophone.

Sax Ensembles

I also run a number of sax ensembles. This gives students the opportunity to play with others of similar ability in a relaxed & convivial atmosphere. Ensemble skills, reading ability and performance skills are all improved. It’s fun and there maybe even a gig in it!

All levels welcome.
